Kisiizi Hospital was founded in 1968 by Christian Missionary John Sharp. The hospital continues to care for the most vulnerable and admits around 130 patients each month. In 1996, the hospital launched the Kisiizi Health Insurance Scheme, the first bespoke health insurance scheme in Uganda.
The number of CHIS beneficiaries has peaked at 45,000 members across 225 groups in 6 Districts (Rukungiri, Kanungu, Kabale, Ntungamo, Rukiga, Rubanda) some of which are up to 60km from the main Kisiizi Hospital satellite services are available from COU Kisiizi Hospital in Rukungiri District, and Hope Community Clinic Rwentobo in Ntungamo District.
The Kigezi Water and Sanitation Programme (KWSP) addresses the needs of the rural population of Kigezi Diocese (Kabale District) by providing improved access to domestic water, safe excreta disposal, and better hygiene.
